READ United turned the league table on its head with an impressive victory at high-flying Mill Hill to inject life into their survival bid.
Ellis Neary did the damage with a memorable brace, aided by a goal each from Andy Bennett and Richard Wilson.
On a spacious pitch, Read took the league as leading scorer Andy Bennett left his man for dead before smashing into the bottom corner.
The home side pegged United back almost from the kick-off, and confusion in the Read defence led to a simple finish for the striker.
Neary restored the advantage as a deep cross was kept alive by Wilson to allow the frontman to slot home from a yard.
In Read’s next attack, Andy Bennett saw his dextrous chip land agonisingly on the roof of the net.
United’s back-line marshalled by Duncan Bennett was rarely trouble and provided a solid foundation for the visitors free-flowing football.
The team from the Ribble Valley extended their lead when Wilson rose highest to send a bullet header sailing past the goalkeeper.
Mill Hill offered little to endorse their league position as they struggled to deal with a combative Read side, man of the match Thomas Harper epitomising everything that was good about United.
Then in what was the move of the game, saw a collection of passes find Andy Bennett, his long diagonal ball was met on the volley by Harper who sent a wicked cross into the path of Neary, the striker met it full on to send a terrific diving header into the roof of the net.
Neary could have had the match ball as he followed up Andy Bennett’s snapsnot, but the keeper made a fantastic double save.
The result lifts United out of the relegation zone with the season drawing to a dramatic close.
Co-manager Nick Galea said: “It’s a massive result from the boys.
“We want to stay in this division and I think with this dominant display we proved that.”
