SPECULATION linking Burnley with a move for former Clarets striker Kyle Lafferty is wide of the mark. Rangers are currently in administration, with their players prepared to defer their wages until the end of the season.

But the club’s administrators Duff and Phelps have said it is “highly unlikely” they would agree to the proposals, with the alternative solution to see up to 11 members of the playing staff made redundant, with the others asked to accept a wage cut. It is believed that the administrators would only be prepared to allow all the players to stay at the club if they agreed to cut their wages to a quarter of current levels.

The vultures are circling Ibrox, but Lafferty, who left Turf Moor for Rangers for upwards of £3m in the summer of 2008, won’t be returning.

Rangers were thought to be ready to sell Lafferty before the transfer window closed, valuing him at £1.75m, but he would be available for less due to the club’s financial plight.

Lafferty will be out of contract at the end of next season.
