A brace from Danny Mort helped Hurst Green seal a West Lancashire League President’s Cup semi-final tie with First Division leaders Lostock St Gerard’s.
Mort struck twice as Green, third in the First Division, saw off Dalton 4-2 on Saturday following a four-week enforced break due to the weather.
Both teams stood in silent homage to the late Sir Tom Finney before commencing battle.
Dalton broke the deadlock after 33 minutes. Pushing forward, a smart cross into the six-yard box was driven home.
Six minutes later, and the scores were level, after a wonderful curling cross from Chris Cookson was met by Chris Byrne, sliding in at the back post.
The visitors regained the lead on 54 minutes as Green failed to clear a speculative cross into the box, and a scuffed shot found the net.
On the hour, Byrne’s pin-point cross from the right was met with a powerful Coar header, and once again the scores were level.
Within 10 minutes, substitute Mort latched on to Chris Scott’s headed flick, and fired home, to give Green the lead for the first time.
And Mort doubled his tally on 81 minutes as he got his toe to a long ball, and when the keeper failed to gather, the youngster had an easy finish.
Green travel to Lytham on Saturday to resume their First Division campaign.
