Green give Langho a tough test in derby

In a well-contested local derby, Langho left fog-bound Smithy Row with all three points, although the Green certainly gave their neighbours a tough examination.

The visitors started the brighter, and home keeper Ben Armer produced three tremendous reflex saves to keep the scores level.

The Green’s first noteworthy attempt came after 20 minutes when left back Rob Atkinson ran half the length of the pitch before striking a superb left-foot shot from 25 yards which Langho keeper Rodgers did well to save. Max Hutchinson then rose magnificently to meet a Ben Aspery corner, only to see the ball fly just over.

Within a couple of minutes Musker gave the visitors the lead following a defensive lapse. As the Green tried to regroup, they were dealt a hammer blow, as the influential Aspery had to be replaced after suffering an injury.

However, the Green regrouped and just before half-time were unlucky as Cory Longton sent Harri Yerkess clear, only for the Langho keeper to once again produce a fine save.

The Green started the second half poorly and within two minutes went further behind to a deflected strike from Downes.

They rallied once again, but again found the keeper in inspired form.
