Former Blues loanee Duncan Watmore has become Sunderland’s first capture under the Paolo Di Canio era.
The 19-year-old, who had been plying his trade at Altrincham FC, will step up from the Blue Square Bet North to the Premier League after swapping Moss Lane for the Stadium of Light.
The striker has agreed a two-year deal with the club and will join up with the development squad - coached by Ged McNamee - at the beginning of July.
Watmore, who scored 14 goals in 29 games for the Conference North side last season, was snapped up on loan by former Clitheroe FC boss Carl Garner last January where he made a number of fleeting appearances at Shawbridge.
The talented teenager is the son of one-time Football Association chief executive Ian Watmore.
