WITH another school year over, new display cabinets are needed at Ribblesdale High School as the school celebrated another sporting year to remember.
A major highlight was the victorious ski team, consisting of Callum Witts, Will Glover, Morgan Cooper and Dan Culshaw, who were crowned North West of England Champions for the very first time.
Success was also had in netball with the Year 7 team winning the Hyndburn & Ribble Valley League and just losing out to become runners-up in the Hyndburn & Ribble Valley Tournament.
The Year 8 team were runners-up in both the Hyndburn & Ribble Valley League Tournament while Year 9 won both the Hyndburn & Ribble Valley League and Tournament.
The Under 14s netball team were also winners of the Lancashire National Schools round and came fourth in the North-West stage of National Schools, when they represented Lancashire. They were also runners-up at the Lancashire Tournament. The Year 10 team were runners-up in Hyndburn & Ribble Valley League.
In rounders the Year 7 and 8 girls’ teams were both runners-up in Hyndburn & Ribble Valley League and the girl’s Under 13s cricket team were winners of Hyndburn & Ribble Valley Tournament. The Under 13s girls’ football team also had an excellent year as they were crowned Hyndburn & Ribble Valley champions. They also went on to represent Burnley FC in the Lancashire Schools Cup were they finished runners-up to a very strong St Bedes team.
The Year 7 boys’ football team had an excellent start to their school football careers by winning both the Hyndburn & Ribble Valley League and Cup, they were also runner’s-up in the Lancashire Schools Cup and also reached the last 16 of the English Schools FA Cup, narrowly losing out on penalties.
The Year 9 team were runners-up in the Hyndburn & Ribble Valley League, narrowly losing out to St Augustine’s. However, they finished the season on a massive high when they beat CRGS at Ewood Park to clinch the cup. The Year 10 team won both the Hyndburn & Ribble Valley League and Cup, beating Hollins High School 8-0 in the final at Burnley FC’s training ground. They were also crowned Lancashire Champions at Ewood Park when they beat Archbishop Temple 4-0. The highlight of the season though was when 300 pupils travelled to Derby County to watch the team after they reached the Final of the English Schools FA Cup. Although the boys lost against Oasis Academy from Croydon, East London, the occasion will live long in the memory of the individuals involved.
The Year 11 team also finished their time at Ribblesdale on a high by reaching the semi-finals of the Lancashire Cup, although they were left disappointed after narrowly missing out on penalties to St Christopher’s. They made up for this by winning the Hyndburn & Ribble Valley League and were also crowned Hyndburn & Ribble Valley Champions when they defeated local rivals St. Augustine’s at the Reebok.
In Cricket, despite the terrible weather the school has also had tremendous success. The Under 12s are through to the semi-finals of the Lancashire Cup and are due to play Manchester Grammar School on September 7th. The Under 15s were unlucky not to make the final of the Lancashire Cup after they were narrowly beaten by Manchester Grammar School in the semi-finals.
