Blues boss Simon Garner is looking forward to seeing the character and reaction of his players after enduring only a second defeat in nine league games since the start of his tenure at Shawbridge.
Clitheroe responded to defeat to New Mills at the end of October by taking 10 points from four games that followed, and Garner is hopeful of a similar sequence this time after a 4-1 loss to Ramsbottom United on Tuesday night. Grant Spencer and a brace from Jon Robinson put the hosts 3-0 in front before Lloyd Dean grabbed an 85th-minute consolation. The home side then scored again through Lee Gaskell.
“After beating Radcliffe 4-0 at the weekend it was like going from one extreme to the other,” he said. “But it was going to come at some point. You learn more from defeats and I’ll learn something about the character of my players and see how they react.”
He added: “There’s no need for a knee-jerk reaction but losing is the worst feeling in football. We will look to put another run together and keep looking up the table.”
