Edisford Bridge FC marked their perfect start to the new season with a charity fund-raiser.

The club opened the campaign with a 6-3 triumph over St Mary’s College Old Boys, despite trailing 3-1 at the interval, and followed that up with a thumping 9-3 victory against Rishton FC.

Ahead of the weekend’s LFA Amateur Cup tie versus Hesketh Casuals in Southport, manager Adrian Thomas organised an event in aid of Cancer Research UK at the Edisford Bridge pub with the help of landlord Dave Clay.

Each squad player raised cash through sponsorship and donations after having their legs waxed.

The manager was almost pinned down to endure a double dose of pain as he had his armpits waxed too!

The team raised £942-10 in total, with 60% being donated to Cancer Research and the remainder going towards club funds.
