Burnley defender Richard Eckersley has today joined Canadian MLS side Toronto FC on loan until January.

Eckersley, 22, has been recalled from his loan spell with League Two Bury to link up again with former Plymouth Argyle manager Paul Mariner, who is currently director of player development with Toronto.

Eckersley spent two months on loan at Argyle under Mariner at the end of the 2009/10 campaign.

A loan spell at Bradford City followed in November 2010 before he linked up with the Shakers in March of this year.

The former Manchester United trainee, who signed a four-year deal with Burnley in the summer of 2009, has made just three appearances for the Clarets.

Burnley Football Club would like to place on record our thanks to Bury Football Club for their understanding in this matter.
