CLITHEROE Cobras Under 18s cruised to a nine-wicket victory over Oswaldtwistle Immanuel in the much delayed final of the Birchall Cup.
Bowling first on a damp track, the Cobras all spin opening attack of Omar Hussain and Saud Moon strangled the batsmen as they managed a solitary single off the first four overs.
Life didn’t get any easier as the innings stuttered to double figures after eight overs with the loss of three batsmen. The Cobras maintained their stranglehold with more miserly spin from Alex Hartley as well as accurate seam bowling from Sardy Mehmood and Josh Dean, resulting in a final total of 54.
In reply, the Cobras set off at a rapid pace with Gowge Drake (28 not out) and Bilal Chockie (16 not out) ensuring the winning total was reached in a mere ten overs, for the loss of just one wicket.
Cobras manager Stan Fitzgerald added: “It’s a great performance from the boys against a side that has already won the Under 18s league. I was very impressed with the catching of Josh Dean who took two crucial catches to back up the disciplined bowling of our three spinners.”
