Clitheroe Cobras’ Under 13s’ girls have made history after earning a share of the Lancashire League title.
The talented squad, under the leadership of Jon Harvey, are the first ever girls’ team to capture a league title, playing exclusively against boys’ teams in the Lancashire League junior set-up.
The Cobras secured a share of the Division Two title with a remarkable run of form in the second half of the season.
After a difficult start to the campaign, narrowly losing four of their opening six fixtures, the girls responded magnificently by reeling off six straight victories to finish joint top.
This remarkable run included comprehensive victories over Haslingden, Lowerhouse, Enfield and Burnley and a nail-biting last-ball thriller at Accrington and culminated in a title-deciding clash at Burnley.
Cobras chairman Farouk Hussain paid tribute to the girls’ achievement: “This has been a remarkable season for the girls.
“They have worked hard over the last few years and the standard at which they are now competing is a credit to them all. And the truth is that we still feel there is even more to come from them over the next few years.”
