A NUMBER of high profile events are being held throughout 2012 to help celebrate Clitheroe Cricket Club’s 150th anniversay.

And the year long celebrations get off to a rip roaring start with the Clitheroe Cobras, the junior section of Clitheroe CC, embarking upon an audacious cricket tour to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah during February.

The party of 13 youngsters aged between 10 and 15 will play five matches against local schools and academies, some of which will take place under floodlights.

During their time out there, the boys will also be watching England take on Pakistan in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, as well as a meet and greet with the England team.

Cobras chairman Farouk Hussain said the trip was going to be an experience of lifetime and everybody connected with the club was looking forward to it.

”it is going to be a once in a lifetime experience for the lads. They will play many games of cricket throughout their careers but this will be something that they will never ever forget.

“The tour will also provide opportunities for the boys to experience different cultures, religions and lifestyles as they undertake several non cricket related excursions and experiences, including a trip out into the desert, a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi and cross Dubai creek in a primitive fishing boat, as used by the locals.

“Excitement is at fever pitch as this has been a long time in the planning. The boys have worked hard to raise funds for the tour and are the envy of their friends.

“I am sure they will have a terrific time and make many new friends.”
