The best is yet to come says record signing Gray

The 24-year-old, who was voted Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year having netted 25 times, has been clinical throughout his career, ever since joining Hinckley United in the Conference North six years ago.

The £6m club record signing, who scored 37 goals during his stay at De Montfort Park, has finished at the head of his club’s scoring charts for four seasons in succession.

Gray netted 55 goals in two-and-a-half campaigns with Luton Town in the Conference, scored 18 for Brentford as they made the play-offs in 2014/15 while his most recent haul helped Sean Dyche’s side secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

The striker, who was also inducted in to the PFA Championship Team of the Year alongside team-mates Tom Heaton, Michael Keane and Joey Barton, said: “I feel like I’ve still got a lot to learn and a lot to work on. I’m not the finished article, nowhere near.

“I’ve scored goals but there’s a lot of my play that I need to work on. Hopefully I can keep rising, keep getting better and do it in the Premier League.

“I think the fans will agree as well. They’ve seen me play well and they’ve seen me play badly. That’s part of football and I’ve got a lot to learn. It’s good for me in my head knowing that there’s room for improvement.”

Gray added: “That’s what I’ve got to learn - to know when I’ve got to drop in and change my game a little bit. It’ll be more like that in the Premier League. I’ve got to learn that and there’s a lot more to come from me as well.

“I came here with quite big expectations, there were a lot of questions asked because the club paid so much money for me, but I hope I’ve repaid that faith and shown them what I can do. Hopefully I can keep getting better and better.

“I’ve still got a lot to learn so as long as I keep improving then I’ll hopefully score goals in the Premier League.”
