Selling clubs hold aces in transfer market - Dyche

Despite a transfer breakthrough with the record signing of Steven Defour, Sean Dyche insists it remains a sellers' market.

Burnley landed the Belgium international on Tuesday for around £7.4m, topping the £6m paid for Andre Gray last summer.

Dyche has said it may well take more to further bolster his squad, and, asked whether the Defour deal is a statement of intent, he said: "I don’t get the impression anyone thinks we don’t meant business. We’re just trying to be honest about the situation.

"If people think we’re signing players that means we’re being progressive then fine. But trust me, I’m surprise an ear hasn’t fallen off the amount of times I’ve been on that phone. I don’t for one minute think people think we’re not trying to sign good players.

"This is life at Burnley, it’s difficult with recruitment.

"With recruitment, there’s proactive and reactive. You're proactive in the sense that we’re out looking for players and gathering information.

"Reactive is a change of circumstances, a manager change, and injury change.

"It’s a sellers market, it’s not a buyers market.

"There was a player I was talking to someone about yesterday and the numbers involved are unbelievable.

"It was a bizarre state of affairs but that’s where football’s at."
