What a very pessimistic, depressing letter from Mr K. Royle. Dear, oh Dear, talk about a glass half empty.
Perhaps Mr Royle has not heard that Burnley is the most enterprising place in the country or of the Burnley Bridge development, or the new technical village in Trafalgar Street or the improvements taking place in Padiham, or that the football team is doing rather well.
It is a fact, Mr Royle, that over one million jobs have been created in the private sector to replace many non-jobs in the public sector. There is still a long way to go, but it is also a fact that our economy is growing at the fastest rate in Europe. Perhaps Mr Royle would like a return to the disaster that was the Miliband/Balls era, when Labour famously said there was no money left.
No, it strikes me that since Gordon Birtwistle was elected, he has achieved more for Burnley than the two previous MPs achieved over 20/30 years.
I will never be a liberal, but when the General Election Mr Royle mentions comes round, I will be voting for Mr Birtwistle. Why would anyone wish to return to the previous administration, which left us in such a mess?
