Have your say

I stand corrected by Mr Ranson, Chairman of Ribble Valley Conservative Association (letters page, October 3rd) and am quite willing to accept they as a group hold no-one in contempt.

I am happy to clarify for your readers some of the groups they must therefore not hold in contempt.

They do not hold the long-term unemployed in contempt; they do not hold the east European immigrants in contempt; they do not hold the Marxist intellectual, war hero, father of the Leader of the Opposition in contempt; they do not hold their member of 50 years standing, who suggested in you letters column the only honourable thing for his MP to do, was to resign, in contempt; they do not hold MPs who fiddle their expenses in contempt; they do not hold businesses who avoid paying a fair level of tax, in this country. from profits earned here, in contempt.

They clearly distance themselves from any national newspapers purporting to represent the Tory faithful and its views, who differ from their own charitable stance. Always happy to help with clarity.
