LETTER: Good luck to new students at Oxford University

A STORY on www.clitheroeadvertiser.co.uk headlined “Stonyhurst pupils offered places at Oxford Uni” states “Four sixth form students at Stonyhurst College have been offered places at Oxford University. The successful pupils are Mary Ann Wootton from Longridge who is the first female ever to be awarded an organ scholarship at St Peter’s College and will read Music...”

I was at St Peter’s College, Oxford, from 1993 to 1996, arriving there from Blackburn College, reading Music and singing in the choir as a Choral Scholar, and can tell you Emily Elias was organ scholar from 1995 to 1998. I thought she was the first female organ scholar at St Peter’s then, but cannot be sure there was not an earlier one. I congratulate Mary Ann and the other students and wish them well in their studies and college life.
