This week I received a letter from UK Parking Control (UKPC) to say that I had to pay a parking fine of £60 within 14 days.
I had overstayed eight minutes on the car park at TK Maxx. It seems my car registration was photographed going in and coming out. I didn’t do this deliberately, but while shopping things beyond our control happen. When shopping in TK Maxx two hours pass like lighting.
Who decided, I wonder, that this piece of land in Burnley can be controlled by UKPC who can then make rules to control how long we can park and, in effect, control our shopping? In fact they build their business relying on people overstaying and paying fines. Does any of the money from fines come back into Burnley? I don’t know.
Consequences of eight minutes over-staying on the car park – a fine. Consequences of getting fined – I will not be doing my Christmas shopping in Burnley this year.
