A young mum is celebrating after her business teaching foreign languages to babies and children was nominated for a national award.
Kirsty Burrows (31) launched Bilinguasing East Lancashire last year after leaving her career as an international marketing manager to spend more time with her daughter Sophie (2). The Spanish and French sessions, for children aged from four weeks to 10 years, have already proved extremely popular and run in Colne, Foulridge, Skipton, Langho and Whalley as well as at nurseries across East Lancashire.
Last year Bilinguasing scooped the Best New Activity for Children prize at the What’s On 4 Little Ones Awards and now the company has been nominated in the Best National Pre-Schooler Development Activity (2-5 years). The awards celebrate the best activities, classes and volunteers throughout the UK as nominated and voted for by parents.
Kirsty, of Colne, said: “I am delighted to have been nominated for the second year running. It is over a year now since I started my venture with Bilinguasing and last year we won a national award which was amazing.
“This year we have been nominated again which is great, we are really hoping that parents will get behind us and give us their vote.”
Voting for the awards closes on May 11th. Bilinguasing classes use music, song, sensory props, massage and
movement to teach languages in a fun and relaxed environment.
Kirsty added: “Our little ‘BilinguaSingers’ pick up the new language so quickly and there are so many benefits for young children who are exposed to a second or third language early on. “I have done a lot of research and it is a fascinating and impressive subject. Babies and young children grow new brain cells to process the particular languages they are exposed to and bilingual children tend to have significantly larger density of grey matter, which is the part of the brain involved in muscle control, sensory perception such as seeing and hearing, memory, emotions, and speech. “
