Fast movers and quick thinkers came to the fore when Clitheroe Chess Club held an end-of-year “Lightning Chess Competition” at The Brow Cow in Chatburn.

There were 12 entrants who were allowed just 10 seconds’ thinking time between each move, making for some fast moving and exciting games. The top scorers were: 1st Paul Timson scoring 4.5 out of a maximum 5, 2nd Peter Mulleady scoring 4 and 3rd Matthew Walsh on 3.5

A wonderful buffet was also enjoyed by all. The next chess event will be a Simultaneous Exhibition by Grandmaster Keith Arkell on February 9th. For more details visit www.elca.org.uk
