Von TRAPP FAMILY - Guest speaker at the meeting of Whalley with Mitton WI, Mrs Maureen Stenton, of Cleveleys, entertained members with the story and music from “The Sound of Music”. Mrs Lesley Lohou expressed thanks for an interesting talk and members enjoyed singing the songs which had brought magic to a sunny evening.
The president gave news and events from LFWI and members discussed dates for future outings.
The next meeting to be in Whalley Abbey on June 1st at 7 p.m. is a social evening of light entertainment with games and quizzes.
FIGHTING SALE - An auction of antiques and bric-a-brac in Whalley Methodist Church Hall raised £3,500 for the fighting fund of Save Whalley Village campaign. More than 300 lots went under the hammer before 200 registered bidders. The auction was organised by Coun. Susan Easrnshaw and her husband, Dave. Auctioneer Pete Hart gave his services. The group is campaigning against proposed housing developments in the village.
RECIPES WANTED - Parishioners at English Martyrs’ RC Church, Whalley, are contributing favourite recipes for a book to be produced by the SVP. People can submit as many recipes as they like, but all must be on separate sheets, each bearing the name of the contributor. Clear instructions, cooking times and temperatures are requested. A box for the sheets has been provided at the back of the church.
MOTHERS’ MEAL - The Mothers’ Union at Whalley Parish Church had a meal at Mytton Fold.
