Woman seriously hurt in Whalley crash

A man has been arrested after a crash in Whalley which has left a young woman critically injured.

Officers were called to the A671 Accrington Road at the junction of Springwood Picnic Site around 4-30pm yesterday after a green Ford Ka and a blue Peugeot 407 collided.

The front seat passenger of the Ford Ka, a 20-year-old woman, was taken by air ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital where she is said to be in a critical condition.

The driver, a 24-year-old woman, was also taken to Royal Preston Hospital but her injuries are not thought to be as serious.

The driver of the Peugeot was uninjured.

A 37-year-old man from Clitheroe has been arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle dangerously and is currently in police custody.

Sgt James Power said: “An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this collision has been launched and we are appealing for anybody who witnessed it to contact us.

“A young woman has been left critically injured and her family is currently being supported by police.

“If anybody has any information they think could be relevant to our inquiry then I would urge them to come forward.”
