FOUR people were taken to hospital after a three-car crash on a busy Ribble Valley road.

At 2-30 p.m. yesterday (Wednesday) a silver VW Sharan was in collision with a silver Chevrolet Matix and a silver Rover MG at the traffic lights near the entrance to the Springwood Picnic Site, in Accrington Road, Whalley.

Emergency services were called and four people, from all cars, were rushed to hospital. A police spokesman confirmed three cars had been involved in the accident. He added: “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, however, we can confirm that the two men and two women taken to hospital were above 70 years of age.

“One suffered a broken leg, one had chest injuries and the other two sustained minor injuries.”

The road was closed for three hours and traffic was diverted through the village of Whalley and Sabden.
