Clitheroe schoolboy Thomas Thrunhill had the surprise of his young life when he was chosen as Preston North End’s mascot for their home game against Leyton Orient last Friday night.
Eight-year-old Thomas, who goes to Pendle Primary School, Clitheroe, is a member of the children’s club at Preston North End – the Junior Whites – as well as a regular player for Clitheroe Wolves. As Preston’s official mascot he was given VIP treatment, with a tour of the Deepdale ground and a chance to meet players and officials.
He was even featured on TV, walking onto the pitch alongside striker Jermaine Beckford, as the match was covered live on Sky Sports.
It was certainly a night to remember for the football-mad youngster. Unfortunately his favourite team only managed a 2-2 draw, but still have their sights set on promotion from League One to the Championship next season.
