Briercliffe wood carver invents the 36-hour day
CRAFTSMAN David Cotham has come up with a way of fitting more hours into the day.
Wood carver David specialises in making wild birds, but when he spotted a beautiful bit of cherry wood he recycled it into a 36-hour clock.
David has a subsidised workshop unit in the Business Units of Queen Street Mill Textile Museum run by the charity East Lancashire into Employment, who help people with disabilities to set up in self employment. He has been with them for 15 years as, because of his health problems, he needs a little extra support and people near him in case of being taken ill.
When the museum was reorganising its collection, some scrap timber was the result and David spotted some cherry wood among the pile and asked if he could use it. Permission granted, he combined it with some walnut and mahogany and produced a large beautiful clock for Terry, the stoker of the huge boilers of the museum's steam engine.
He has more timber available, so if you would like one, contact him via East Lancashire into Employment on 01282 456186.
Anyone interested in setting up a business as David did can contact ELE on the same number. Or people can learn computing on one of the training courses ELE run.
All training and support is free and is available for anyone in East Lancashire
