SLAIDBURN: Hand-made hats talk to WI

Fascinators - At the 67th birthday meeting of Slaidburn WI members observed a minutes’ silence in memory of Mr John King-Wilkinson.

The King-Wilkinson Cup for most points awarded in competitions over the past year was won by Mrs Susan Farrand, Miss June Carr was second and Miss Isobel Bristow third. Flowers were presented to Mrs Jean Duck in recognition of her 18 years’ service to the WI.

Guest speaker Mrs Zena Herbert spoke about “Hats and Fascinators” using Mrs Tracy Ankers and Mrs Hilary Wood as models, Mrs Herbert, of Morecambe, has her own hat shop making all her creations by hand with needle and thread. She was thanked by Mrs Linda Blakeman.

An excellent birthday supper was enjoyed by all, the cakes havng been baked by Mrs Mary Cowking.

A competition for a wedding hat was won by Mrs Mary Cowking, Mrs Elsie Miller and Mrs Margaret Harrison.

YOUNG FARMERS - members of Slaidburn Young Farmers met for a talk by David Lloyd on his running adventure in the Sahara Desert. Thanks were expressed by Thomas Harrison.
