Twenty six Scouts and leaders from two Clitheroe troops recently undertook a scuba diving session to experience life underwater and qualify for their watersports badge.

The two troops from St Mary Magdalene and 1st Clitheroe Scouts joined forces for the afternoon. The session took place in Ribblesdale Pool and was run by Reefers and Wreckers Diving School of Barrow. The Scouts underwent an hour’s instruction on the poolside, then kitted up for two hours in the water both snorkelling and scuba diving. It was a fantastic experience for everyone as they swam beneath the surface of the pool and learned some of the basic diving techniques.

Jenny MacDowall, leader of the St Mary’s troop who organised the activity for the two groups said: “This was a great opportunity for the Scouts to try something completely different and they all had a fantastic time. The instructors from Reefers and Wreckers were brilliant and made everyone feel confident underwater. I would highly recommend this activity to any group who is looking for an exciting challenge”. All the Scouts gained their PADI Discover Scuba Diver certificate as well as qualifying for their Scout watersports badge.
