Clitheroe Salvation Army Envoy Brenda Wise and Capt. Elizabeth Smith with children from the Ribbledale Childrens Centre at the launch of this years toy appeal.

Today sees the launch of the ninth annual Christmas Toy Appeal by The Clitheroe Advertiser and Times and our local branch of the Salvation Army.

This year, we are hoping our generous readers and the wider community can help us out, once again, to make the appeal the most successful to date and deliver presents to deserving children throughout Clitheroe and the surrounding villages.

Captain Elizabeth Smith, of Clitheroe’s Salvation Army, has seen for herself what a difference our toy appeal has made over the nine years since its launch.

“We are so grateful to the Clitheroe Advertiser which has done an amazing job at promoting the toy appeal for nine years.

“This year we expect the need to be even greater, as low income families and single parents struggle to provide a happy Christmas for their children.

“We are confident that those needs will be adequately met by the kind people of Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley, who have never failed to help us by their generous donations of toys.

“Between us we can bring relief to parents in crisis, and delight to local children in need this Christmas.”

Presents can be taken to the Salvation Army charity shop in Lowergate from now until Saturday December 15th.

Agencies who wish to refer families please call Captain Elizabeth Smith on 07709351394.

l THOSE wanting to get a head start on their Christmas shopping and support the Clitheroe Salvation Army Toy Appeal at the same time can visit the Christmas Market being held at the Pavillion Cafe, Shackletons Garden Centre, Chatburn.

Taking place on Thursday November 22nd from 6 p.m. there will be the opportunity to browse more than 20 different stalls. The event is being held in aid of the Salvation Army Toy appeal, and as well as raising funds you can also bring along your own donations of gifts for local children.

Entry to the event costs £3.
