Pupils reflect on results and successes

There was a special feel to the awards evening held at St Augustine's RC High School as former pupils celebrated their time at the school while reflecting on wider successes over the past years.

These included excellent examination results at the Billington based school plus valuable contributions to community projects and charities.

Local dignitaries including the Deputy Mayoress of Clitheroe Coun. Maureen Fenton, the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of the Ribble Valley Coun. Richard Bennett and Mrs Marilyn Davies and the Mayor and Mayoress of Hyndburn Coun. Tim O’Kane and Mrs Melanie Storey attended.

Guest of Honour was former member of staff Mr Gareth Bowden who had been the pupils’ Year Leader for two years.

In his speech, he praised the efforts of the young people who had achieved so well and also highlighted the role that young people can play in changing the world for the better, stressing the importance of friendship, honesty and integrity.

He presented GCSE certificates and a number of special awards including the Chaplaincy Award which was presented to Charlotte Campbell and the Whalley Lions’ Shield for Service to the School Community which was presented to Paul Bell and Thomas Priest.

Other notable prize winners were Rachel Shuker who received an award for outstanding success in her GCSEs (9A* and 1A) and former Head Boy, William Golding, who was awarded the Headteacher’s Prize for 10 A* grades at GCSE as well as an outstanding contribution to school life over his five years at the school.
