JUBILEE themed ceramic tiles were designed and decorated by pupils at Barrow Primary School in honour of a local grandparent.
Mr Pollitt, who was a grandparent of a past pupil, passed away at Christmas, but donations from his funeral were handed over to FOBS (Friends of Barrow School).
Previously, Mr Pollitt maintained regular contact with the school even though his grandson had left several years earlier and he had continued to come into school each week and listen to the younger pupils read until two years ago when he gave up driving. He had also given talks in history lessons about his life during the wars when he served his country.
FOBS thought it would be a lovely idea to use the money for each child (132 pupils) to have a Jubilee memory and arranged for staff from Backridge Barn to come into school and work with the children designing and decorating a tile each.
A spokesman for FOBS said: “These have been glazed and fired and the children will take them home. “It was felt that Mr Pollitt would have been pleased with the Jubilee link as he was very patriotic.”
