Plans to build a new supermarket in Clitheroe will be debated on Thursday night.

An application for a new Aldi store, car park and a non-food retail unit on the former Barkers Garden Centre site in Whalley Road will either be refused or be given the green light at Ribble Valley Borough Council’s Planning and Development Committee meeting.

Five letters of objections have been submitted to the council from nearby residents who fear the development would cause noise disturbance from deliveries, noise from cars in the car park and are questioning whether Clitheroe needs a fifth supermarket. The town already has four supermarkets – Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Lidl and Booths.
