A CLITHEROE man is keeping the wheels of fund-raising turning by cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
Phil Reid is ready to set off on Monday (June 11th) to complete the challenge over 12 days. The 33-year-old will celebrate his 34th birthday on day 10 of the trip.
Phil, who works as an engineer for Sky, is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and the decision to take on the journey came after he lost his father to cancer in December 2010. It was whilst reminiscing about memories that he remembered his dad buying him a Raleigh chopper bike at around 10 years old and then his dad also throwing it in the bin when Phil continuously fell off the bike.
Phil is completing the cycling on his own. On Saturday June 16th he will be six days into his journey and that day will see him cycle from Clitheroe to Carlisle, and on the leg some of his friends that he has been training with around Clitheroe will join him for the day before continuing on again alone.
He will be updating his online blog (cyclingfromendtoend.blogspot.co.uk) along the way so people can see how he is getting on.
Anyone wishing to support him can do so by logging onto justgiving.com/philreidfs988 or by texting PHIL78 £2/£5/£10 to 70070. eg: “PHIL78 £5”
