So what do people think of the decision to reselect Nigel Evans to stand as the Conservative Party candidate for the Ribble Valley in the next General Election?
Reporter Julie Magee was in Clitheroe town centre to ask local residents and visitors their thoughts.
The general consensus was that the local Conservative Association has made the right decision on reselecting Mr Evans although a handful of people, who did not want to be filmed, disagreed.
Bob Haynes (54), of Hoddlesden, Marion Procter (73), a parish councillor for Sabden, and Jayne Whalley (54), a farmer’s wife from Newton-in-Bowland, all thought Mr Evans’ reselection was the right decision.
However, former Bolton-by-Bowland resident Ian Richardson (52) was the only person willing to be filmed saying that he disagreed with Mr Evans’ reselection. Currently studying for a Phd in Medieval Philosophical Theology through Kings College, London, and based out in Germany, Mr Richardson said he believed aspects of Mr Evans character that had been revealed in court were not suited to the role of MP.
