A BRAND new youth club has opened up in Whalley.
Whalley Junior Phab Club affiliates to the national charity “Phab”, which promotes inclusion for people with and without disabilities
Rebecca Hargreaves, who lives in Whalley and is National Development Manager for Phab, said: “I have visited so many amazing Phab Clubs and projects all over the country I thought it was about time the Ribble Valley got in on the action!
“The club started in April and I have been overwhelmed with the response and we already have a membership of around 40 children. We also have a fantastic team of volunteers and would love to hear from anyone who would like to get involved.”
The club is held once a month on a Saturday afternoon at Whalley Village Hall and is open to all children under the age of 13. There is a disco, with resident DJ Lewis Barlow, arts and crafts, a tuck shop and games. There is a small entrance charge of £2, which includes a drink and free tea and coffee for parents if they wish to stay.
Rebecca went on: “Fund-raising has already got off to a flying start, with Ribblesdale Rotary donating £561.32, and we are absolutely thrilled about their support.”
During the summer holidays some of the members also took part on a Phab residential project at Bendrigg Lodge in the Lake District. They had a fantastic time trying new activities such as climbing and canoeing as well as meeting other Phab members from all over the country.
The next meeting of Whalley Junior Pab Club is this Saturday, from 3-30 to 5 p.m at Whalley Village Hall. After that the monthly meetings will be on October 29th (Halloween party), November 26th and December 17th (Christmas party).
