Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans has spoken out against a plan to convert the closed-down Black Bull, Rimington, into a residential property.

He said the move would remove the only pub in the village.

The Black Bull, once a popular dining venue, closed last October and a planning application to convert it to residential use is due to go before Ribble Valley borough councillors.

Mr Evans said: “The Black Bull is a vitally important community asset, the only pub in the village, and while it is a shame it is not currently in use a change of use of the building would remove it forever.

“I know that CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, has concerns over this application and am firmly of the belief this vital asset should be preserved for the good of the community.

“A local pub can be right at the centre of a rural community and provide a social function as well as local employment.”
