Clitheroe Mountaineering Club's 2011 programme of indoor meets begins on Thursday when treasurer Frank Taylor will present an illustrated lecture about mountaineering in Morocco.

All are welcome at the meeting at Clitheroe Cricket Club, at 8 p.m.

Following this, a day meet will take place in the Yorkshire Dales on Sunday, January 23rd, leaving the council offices car park in Clitheroe at 8 a.m.

Club members enjoyed their traditional end to the old year by climbing to the summit of Scafell Pike on New Year's Eve. Setting out from the Brackenclose climbing hut in Wasdale, the party took the path to Brown Tongue and Hollow Stones for a final ascent through deep, soft snow to Mickledore, the narrow col between Scafell Pike and Scafell. Continuing in limited visibility, the group crossed slopes of snow-covered boulders to reach the trig. point on England's highest mountain and to lunch in one of the summit shelters.

More details about the club's activities in 2011, and how to become a member, can be obtained from Nick Millward, on 01200 441346.
