East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has strengthened its board of directors with the appointment of Whalley man Mike Wedgeworth MBE as the Trust’s newest associate non-executive director.
Mr Wedgeworth, who is currently chairman of Healthwatch Lancashire and formerly chief executive of Hyndburn Borough Council and chairman of Blackburn College, has held senior executive positions both locally and nationally for almost four decades. He now serves as an assistant priest at Blackburn Cathedral.
Professor Eileen Fairhurst, chairman of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Mike brings extensive knowledge and a wealth of leadership experience that we can benefit from as the Trust responds to the significant clinical, operational and financial challenges facing the NHS.”
Mr Wedgeworth who was awarded the MBE in 2010 for services to further education and the community of Lancashire took up his new appointment for an initial period of two years, starting in April.
Mike is committed to the values of the NHS, and public services generally, and is very aware of the need to provide safe, personal and effective care to patients.
“I am delighted to have this opportunity to help the Trust enhance its role in providing high quality care to the people of East Lancashire.”
In line with agreed arrangements for Associate Non-Executive Directors, Mr Wedgeworth is entitled to receive £6,157 per annum.
