Last minute present hunters and those still needing to fill the festive table can head for Clitheroe market on Christmas Eve.
The bustling market will be open on Saturday December 22nd and Monday the 24th (Christmas Eve) instead of the usual Tuesday market, which will be Christmas Day.
The market will also be closed on Thursday December 27th, and on New Year’s Day, but will be open on Saturday December 29th.
Normal business will resume on Saturday January 3rd, although there will be no further Friday collectors’ markets until March.
Clitheroe has hosted a regular market since the Norman Conquest in the 12th Century. A wide range of stalls now high quality sell fruit and vegetables, bread and cakes, fish and meat, clothing and lingerie, pottery and craft items, curtains and fabrics, rugs and household textiles, flowers and electrical goods.
The market is also home to a number of specialist food traders including Ferguson’s Deli, which is featured on the Ribble Valley Food Trail; legendary fruit and veg stall Burney’s, and Continental Foods, which stocks a feast of European fare such as German soup, Italian pasta, cured meats from Poland, Spain and Germany, and speciality breads.
