Former Clitheroe Advertiser and Times’ reporter Marcia Morris was recognised for her contribution to the community during 32 years working for the newspaper by receiving an invitation to the Queen’s garden party at Buckingham Palace.
Along with her husband, Vic, she attended the afternoon event where the Queen, in a purple coat and hat, and the Duke of Edinburgh were present along with Princess Beatrice of York, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.
Also at the garden party were Pat Parrott, of Clitheroe Ramblers, recognised for her contribution to public footpaths and access, accompanied by fellow Rambler organiser Valerie Grooby.
They enjoyed walking round the extensive gardens, listening to the military bands and taking afternoon tea in the sunshine.
Speaking after the event, Marcia said: “It was one of the best days of both our lives.
“To be privileged to walk through those iconic gates into the palace was fantastic. The afternoon tea of tiny cucumber and egg and cress sandwiches and dainty cakes was exactly as we imagined it to be.”
