If you have an affinity with Whalley and would like to volunteer for a community project, put 7-30pm on Wednesday, February 12th, in your diary.
That is when the Friends of Whalley in Bloom are to meet in Whalley Abbey for their AGM. The meeting involves discussing plans for entry into this year’s Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom competition, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Historically, Whalley has done well in the competition’s large village category, often taking the Lancashire title. You don’t need to be a plant or garden design expert to become a friend. Qualification has more to do with being willing and enthusiastic.
A design theme currently under discussion is a scheme to mark the centenary of the First World War.
The meeting will be followed by wine tasting, courtesy of Whalley Wines, and a chance to chat informally with guests and members.
