Gale force winds blew across Ribble Valley last Thursday, causing damage to trees, fences and other property across the area, Clitheroe Advertiser reader Richard Dugdale took this photo of a tree blown down on the edge of Chatburn, blocking Sawley Road leading to its junction with the A59. More than 500 homes in Langho and parts of Whalley lost power when overhead power cables were damaged.

Elsewhere, the road from Gisburn to Long Preston was closed after a tree was blown down. It remained closed overnight but was opened early the next morning after contractors cleared the debris. Some householder saw fences and even garden sheds blown over and others lost roof slates, but thankfully there were no reports of anyone injured or of the serious disruption experienced in other parts of the country.
