A life-long members of the Church of England from Sabden has been selected for a Royal honour.
Bernard Parfitt, who attends St Nicholas’s Church, Sabden, is to be presented with Maundy money by the Queen at Blackburn Cathedral in April.
He is are among 88 men and 88 women from the Diocese of Blackburn chosen to receive the coins which are a symbolic gesture of appreciation for people over the age of 70 for service to the church and community. The number 88 was chosen as 2014 marks the Queen’s 88th birthday.
Churchwarden Mr Parfitt, who has worked tirelessly for St Nicholas Church all his life, received news of the honour when he arrived back home from a holiday in Spain at the weekend. He will be 70 in February.
