Ribble Valley foodies are in for a treat as River Cottage head chef Gill Meller will be in Gisburn to open the village’s first ever Farmers’ and Producers’ Market on Saturday April 12th.
As well as opening the Market, Gill will be demonstrating his culinary skills using some of the fresh, local produce on offer.
Gill has been at River Cottage for eight years and he has appeared on TV alongside owner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, as well as contributing to the very successful River Cottage cookery books.
Giles Bridge, chairman of Gisburn Festival Hall’s management committee, said: “We are really looking forward to Gill Meller opening the Farmers’ Market. Our customers will have the opportunity to taste the fantastic produce the market will sell, cooked by a first class chef.
“River Cottage has a real commitment to local produce and that is what we want to replicate at Gisburn Farmers’ Market.
“We are grateful to our sponsors, Barnoldswick-based Stovemakers ESSE, who have arranged for Gill to open the first of our regular Markets in Gisburn.”
The Farmers’ Market is a community project organised by Gisburn Festival Hall Management Committee and the aim is to promote local produce and encourage people to shop locally, while also raising funds for the hall.
The market will be held at Gisburn Festival Hall on Burnley Road from 10 am to 2 pm. There is free parking, free admission, on-site refreshments, a children’s playground and an Easter Egg hunt. Local youth band “Silent Laughter” will also be entertaining the crowds.
Because of the interest in the event, the number of stalls available has been extended and there is still a chance for traders to join the farmers’market. To book a stall contact the secretary on 07508 006537 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
