Cyclists plan 1,000-mile trek for cancer unit

On Monday, April 25th, IT consultant Anthony Ridehalgh (43) and wife Sarah (40), who works as an NHS administrator based in Blackburn, will start out from Land’s End to pedal an average of 80-100 miles a day until they reach John O’Groats.

They are hoping their epic feat will raise at least £500 for the appeal, which currently stands at £90,000 towards its £100,000 target. This is half the cost of building a brand new chemotherapy unit at Burnley General Hospital that when complete, will be second to none in the country. The other half of the money is coming from East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, which manages the hospital.

En route, Anthony and Sarah, who is a member of Accrington Road Runners Club, will be supported by Sarah’s dad Brian Clarke and his partner Pauline Wright, who will be travelling alongside them in their motorhome. They will also be looking after Anthony and Sarah’s dog Calla, who is making the journey.

Athletic Sarah will represent Great Britain in the Duathlon World Championships in Aviles, Spain, which combines cycling and running in June.
