Ribble Valley boxers impress-ed at their first amateur boxing show with two hard fought victories.
Earlier this month boxers from clubs around the North- West met for an amateur boxing show at Kirkham.
They included boxers from Ribble Valley Fitness Centre and Boxing Club (Valley Fitness), based at Mearley Street in Clitheroe, for whom it was their first amateur boxing show event.
The competition was tough, but Reece Farnhill (16), boxing at 65kg, won with a unanimous decision, while Liam Dewhurst (20), boxing at 85kg, won with a split decision.
Head coach Mohammed “Saf” Sarfraz, said: “These lads have trained hard and performed brilliantly on the night.
“Success is what we want to achieve for the youngsters in the Ribble Valley. Our club is open six days a week Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 9 pm just waiting for fresh faces and hidden talent to walk through the doors.
“We are committed to bringing out the best in anyone who has the desire to succeed in the boxing game.
His son and assistant coach Mohammed “Taj” Sirtaj added: “With obesity on the rise, boxing training is an excellent type of total body fitness training.
“We have had a great response from males and females attending the sessions and reaping the benefits from our fun packed and adrenalin pumping workouts.”
Ribble Valley Fitness Centre and Boxing Club (Valley Fitness) first opened its doors in January, 2012, and is the first ever boxing club in the Ribble Valley to obtain affiliation by the Amateur Boxing Association of England. Boxing sessions are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 to 7 pm.
