Woman tied up in terrifying robbery at Clitheroe shop

A WOMAN was left tied up and terrified after a robbery at the Blockbuster store in Clitheroe.

Police are appealing for information about the incident, which happened around 6 p.m. last night (Tuesday, December 13th). Three robbers burst into the store in Wellgate and demanded the lone female shop assistant open the safe.

She stated she couldn’t do this and was made to open the till instead. She was then forced into a backroom where the men tied her arms to a staircase bannister using tape.

The offenders then went back to the front of the store and stole a quantity of money as well as two Xbox 360 consoles and 12 Nintendo DS consoles before escaping on foot.

Thankfully the woman, who is aged 44 and from Clitheroe, wasn’t seriously hurt, but was left shaken.

Det. Insp. Mark Vaughton said: “If anybody was in the area around the time of the robbery who saw anybody acting suspiciously, or perhaps three men running away from the scene just after 6 p.m., then I would urge them to contact police.

“It is fortunate the shop assistant didn’t suffer any serious physical injury, but as you can imagine she has been left extremely shaken by her ordeal. If anybody has any information at all about this incident then please come forward.”

Anybody with any information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
