Wife afraid after estranged husband turns up at Clitheroe shop

A WOMAN locked the doors of her Clitheroe shop after seeing her estranged husband standing inside in breach of a restraining order.

Blackburn magistrates heard Kevin Holmes left, but then returned and tried both the front and rear doors and started shouting her name.

And the court was told Carol Holmes was deeply disappointed the restraining order imposed only eight days before the incident had failed to provide the protection she had hoped for.

Holmes (53), of Cheltenham Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to breach of a restraining order. He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Catherine Allan (prosecuting) said Mrs Holmes was speaking to a customer when she saw her estranged husband stood inside the front door.

“He left and she locked the door behind him before calling the police,” said Miss Allan. “She was still on the phone when he came back and tried both the front and back doors. His behaviour left her worried the restraining order wasn’t working. She is afraid to go home in case he turns up at her address.”

Scott Parker (defending) said, as a result of the incident, Holmes had spent the weekend in police cells.

“He has got the message this order has teeth,” said Mr Parker.

He said Holmes was aware his son was due to travel to South America and Australia and had wanted to speak to him before he left. He had gone to the Clitheroe shop where his son worked and when he wasn’t there had gone to see his ex-wife to see if she could help.
