Whalley householders try to fight off machete raiders
two robbers armed with a machete burst into a house at Whalley and threatened the occupants for money.
They first tried to kick in the front door of the house in Clitheroe Road, then used a machete to smash the glass.
Police are hunting the pair, who are thought to be local and may have sneaked up to the house through fields at the back.
Insp. Graham Lister, of Ribble Valley police, said: “The occupants of the house tried to stop them by hitting them with a shoe, but they forced the door open.
“One offender went into the kitchen and started opening the cupboards.
“We believe they had some local knowledge because one said he knew who the people were and that they dealt in antiques.”
The robbers eventually fled with just £50 in cash.
They were both white and of medium build, and had deep voices and local accents.
Police say anyone with information can contact them on 101, quoting reference LC/20130215/1587.
