CHRISTMAS has come early to a Ribble Valley children’s charity, thanks to the seasonal generosity of their neighbouring home and garden centre.
Carr Hall Home and Garden Centre has donated a spectacular real Christmas tree to brighten up the HQ of Child Action Northwest. The charity is based in the building on Whalley Road in Wilpshire that was originally founded as Blackburn Orphanage 120 years ago, just a stone’s throw away from the prestigious garden centre.
The Christmas present underlines the partnership being forged between the neighbouring Wilpshire organisations. Indeed, Child Action Northwest has been selected as Carr Hall’s Charity of the Year 2012 as part of a wider programme of community participation and support.
Carr Hall’s Marketing Manager, Angela Smith, explained: “We are donating one of our fantastic eight-foot special trees, which are grown in the UK and sourced from sustainable growers. We are very much a part of the local community here in Wilpshire and it makes sense to support the work of Child Action Northwest across the road.
“There is clearly a great need for us to pull together and we are looking forward to helping them in whatever ways we can.”
From its Ribble Valley base, Child Action Northwest now provides support through a team of Foster Carers and community-based projects in some of the most deprived areas in the region. CANW fundraising manager Harriet Roberts is delighted with the gesture from Carr Hall.
“The Christmas tree is brilliant,” she said. “It has brightened up our working environment and given everyone a festive boost around here. Having lost vital funds in recent cuts, it’s great that Carr Hall as a company have chosen to support our ongoing projects, we are very grateful.”
