Ribchester man’s vicious assault in Whalley car park

editorial image

A MAN crossing a Whalley pub car park was attacked and brutally beaten by a man he had been talking to earlier.

Blackburn magistrates heard David Grieve was punched from behind on the back of the head and repeatedly punched by his assailant. When he tried to protect himself by getting hold of his attacker Ryan Gallagher, Mr Grieve was bitten on the chest.

He was then taken in a headlock and his head banged against a parked car three or four times before he was again taken to the floor and punched again and again.

During the final part of the attack Gallagher was shouting; “You’re going to die.”

Miss Parveen Akhtar (prosecuting) said Mr Grieve suffered concussion as a result of the attack as well as numerous cuts and bruises and a bite wound to his chest.

He said the incident had impacted on his life in many ways and that he had not felt able to have a night out in Whalley since it happened. He had been left with a scar on his chest as a result of the bite.

Gallagher (27), of Sarmatian Fold, Ribchester, was convicted after a trial of assaulting Mr Grieve. He was made subject to community supervision for 12 months, ordered to do 100 hours’ unpaid work, pay £300 compensation to Mr Grieve and £160 in costs.
